A trained dog is a happy dog. When your dog is well-trained, both of you will fully understand what behaviors are acceptable. Once a dog is trained, no one will have to worry about leaving the animal home alone. Even though training a dog is not an easy task, the time you take with it to teach manners, tricks, and how to do things properly will be time that is well spent.

When doing crate training, train your dog incrementally rather than trying to do it all at once. Once he is comfortable walking in and out of the crate, try quietly closing the door and offering him a biscuit through the wires. Start off small, like 10 seconds at a time, and slowly move up the times. If the dog becomes agitated, slow down a little more to make them more comfortable.

TIP! When your dog is a room make sure you are calm when you come in. Play time is beneficial to your dog, however, you need to teach your dog to be calm as you enter any room.

Give your puppy some toys to chew on so they do not hurt while teething, keep other things they might want to chew on out of their reach! Offer your puppy a variety of acceptable items to chew on. A frozen washcloth is a great way to help your pup ease his teething pain.

Gets Older

Choose a crate that fits your dog properly and use it to crate train them. As your dog gets older, he will probably grow larger. Get a crate that is the right size for your dog when it gets older. Don’t restrict the size so much so that the dog cannot lie or turn easily.

TIP! Always remain consistent when crate training any young pups. As soon as you let your dog out of the crate, take him to his potty location.

Treats are necessary when teaching a dog fancy tricks like rolling over. First, have your pet to lay down. The next step is to palm the treat and hold your hand beside your dog’s head. Slowly raise the treat over your dog’s head to the opposite side. They’ll follow your treat with their nose which will cause them to roll over. Each time he sways to one side, tell him to “roll over”. Keep doing this until the treat is no longer needed. Be patient while he masters this trick. He will be a star once he does!

Keep your tone of voice consistent when training dogs. This lets them know you’re serious and that they must obey. The dog will also know the difference when you give them discipline as opposed to a command.

Make sure training has an element of fun incorporated into it. Taking some time to have fun with your dog makes your dog like you more, which means fewer problems when training him. Despite the fun the two of you will have during training, it is important to set aside time that is designated to enjoyment only, with no work or training involved.

TIP! Don’t use any kind of devices, like a shock collar, when training your dog. These devices are expensive and do not always work as well as you would expect them to.

Primary reinforcement is good to use when training your dog. This utilizes something the dog loves as a means to reward positive behaviors. Some examples of primary reinforcements are food and rubbing the dog’s belly. This teaches your dog something that they desire.

A first step to training a puppy is get him used to hearing his name. Call his name every time you do something or want him to do something. Teach him that he needs to run to you when his name is called. These are the commands your dog should learn before anything else. Spend plenty of quality time with them, so that they know that they can trust you. More advanced training will be much easier later if your dog trusts and loves you.

When you discipline your dog, your tone is an important factor. Dogs can pick up how you are feeling. By adopting a stern tone to your voice, it will be easier to enforce discipline.

TIP! Choose a set phrase for house training your dog. When you take your dog out, repeat this command.

Consistency makes it easier to teach your dog how to control himself. When you’re home with your puppy, take it out as often as possible. When the dog relieves himself outside, give him praise. Don’t scold a dog after an accident. He doesn’t know better yet and punishment would serve no purpose. Make it a rule that fifteen minutes after the dog eats or drinks, he is taken out for a walk. As well, he should be taken out each time he is let out of the crate.

The “down” command is something you should teach your dog. This is useful on its own, but also opens up other tricks. By teaching your dog the command “down,” you can ensure his safety in the event of an emergency.

Don’t give mixed signals. If you’re amused and it shows when they are acting improperly, they’ll do it again. If you do, training will be damaged. No matter how entertaining your dog is when he misbehaves, you must consistently correct him.

Crib Mattress

Consider the size of your dog when purchasing a bed. You could get a rectangular bed designed specifically for large dogs or, better yet, a standard crib mattress. A crib mattress is practical because you can use fitted crib sheets that can be easily washed and replaced. Another advantage is that these mattresses are waterproof.

Training your dog will establish rules for them and for you. It will help you to be able to have a leadership position over your dog and help you both to have a fulfilled relationship together. Keep up with the things your dog has been taught during training. Keep his training consistent and watch for any issues with his behavior. When the time comes that you have trained your dog in the basics, the things you and he can achieve have no limit.
