You and your dog will both benefit from training. When your dog has been properly trained, it becomes easier for him to meet your expectations. You will not have to worry about leaving him home along or taking him to public places. The time that you spend training your dog will pay off tenfold.
Crate training your new puppy is most effective when you take small steps. If your dog seems comfortable inside the crate when the door is open, shut it and feed them a treat. Leave them in for short periods of time, as little as 10 seconds. Work up from there. If the dog doesn’t like it, slow the process.
Training a dog to go outside to pee means remembering that they’ll have to go after ingesting food or water. To help regulate your dog’s bowel movements, feed him 2-3 times per day. It does not matter the phrase you choose, as long as you keep it consistent. This will keep him focused, and will teach him to associate those words with the action of relieving himself.
Canine training can help you set rules for your dog, so it understands the relationship. Once those rules are in place and followed consistently, your dog will have an easier time understanding its role and your needs. Don’t forget to continue providing reinforcement. Constantly review what you have taught him and correct any issues. Once your dog has the basics of training under his belt, there is no limit to what the two of you can achieve.
