Your dog will have a happier life if you put it through puppy training, and you will be happier too. When your dog is trained, both of you know what you can expect. After proper training there will be less to worry about and you will be able to live him or her home alone with confidence. The time that you spend training your dog will pay off tenfold.
Small steps, gentle ways and patience are all a part of getting your puppy used to their crate. Eventually they will become comfortable with the crate and you can then try to shut the door to the crate. When they allow the door to shut you can give them a treat through the wiring. In the beginning it is important to only leave the dog in the crate for a few seconds. After a while you will be able to leave them in the crate for longer amounts of time. If the dog becomes upset, then you need to take a step back and slow down the training.
The best way to train your dog is to reward it when it behaves properly. Dog treats must be plentiful and strategically timed. By giving treats at the proper time, you’ll ensure that your dog understands which behavior it’s being rewarded for.
Do not tie a dog up near another dog, or dogs. The chain from one dog could wrap around the second and the dogs could get hurt trying to get free. If dogs get tangled up too severely, one can get wrapped up so badly it could close off the airway, and he could die.
By training your dog, you are helping him to become a rule follower. Too many owners tend to be under the impression that once they have trained their dog, that’s the end of it. Dogs, though, are like people in the way they fall into habits. For this reason, you need to reinforce what your dog has learned in training or better still, teach him a new trick every now and then.
When house training your pup, you should adhere to a regular schedule of feeding and elimination. This way, you are aware of when your dog will need to do his business, and you can take him outside before an accident occurs. This will also teach your dog “hold it” until her next trip outside.
Begin your canine training session with something that your dog will be able to learn easily. This will cause you to get your dog to learn its first trick quickly, which is rewarding. It will also show your dog what training is all about. This ensures your outcome is positive.
You need to teach your puppy how to leave an item alone with a simple command such as “leave it.” Teaching them to “leave it” will stop them from destructive chewing and coming in contact with something that could potentially hurt them.
Be careful not to spend too much time at once training your dog. Your dog is going to get bored doing the same thing over and over. Try to limit initial training sessions to 10 minutes or less.
Maintain brief training sessions. Since dogs have a tough time paying attention, you do not want to draw out the process. If you want to train more, make sure to include play breaks for your dog.
Use a spray bottle filled with water to prevent your dog from doing things it should not do, such as scratching the furniture or biting. Getting sprayed is a little unpleasant, and will give your dog the idea the the behavior is unacceptable. In short order, the dog is sure to cease such behavior, and assume the role of fun, yet obedient animal.
Training sessions for dogs should stay short. You should spend only fifteen minutes for every single task you give your dog. Going over this time per task is only going to frustrate both you and your dog, which impedes progress. After each training session spend some time playing with your dog and lavish him with praise.
The important thing to understand about canine training is that it is about setting a precedence of what is expected from the relationship. The two of you will get so much more from each other once you figure this out. Always provide consistent support for lessons you have imparted to the dog. Do not let him stray from good behavior over time, and stay firm if he does. Once you have taught your dog how to behave, you will find there is very little you two can’t accomplish together.
