Verbal cues are very important to make sure that your dog is under your command. Certain words like “yes” are great for bridging the time between obeying an order and receiving the reward.
It is easy to train a roll with treats. Begin by getting the dog to lay down. Next, hold the treat close to the floor on one side of the dog’s head, and slowly bringing it upwards and over to the dog’s other side. He should follow the treat with his nose, causing him to roll his whole body over. As he is rolling over say, “roll over” and praise them immediately when they do. This may take time, so don’t become frustrated.
Always be patient when you train your dog. This reduces frustration and annoyance when puppy training. Your dog wants to do what you ask him to, but you have to give him the commands in a way in which he understands what is expected.
You need to teach your dog right away that they should drop or back away from something when you say “leave it.” This simple command will get them to stop chewing on household items or furniture, and can keep them away from dirty or potentially dangerous items outside the home.
Make sure that both you and your dog enjoy the daily training. When you engage in play with your pet, your relationship becomes stronger; your dog will often respond better to you while training because of this enhanced bond. Training is fun for the dog, but you should set aside some real “play time” as well.
Let your dog get a minimum of an hour of exercise every day, and do this in addition to standard breaks outside for potty and training. You need to ensure your dog is exercising, you will get more out of training them. Your dog will be happier and more responsive when he gets the exercise he needs.
