Dogs provide us with unconditional love and lots of joy. No wonder they are the most popular pets in the US. However, having a puppy in the home is often a great deal of work. You must be prepared to provide solid training. You will soon have a well-trained dog if you use the above advice.

Training your pet to roll over very easy. Just remember to have treats in hand. Start by getting the dog to lay down. Then, position a treat near the floor to one side of him, raise it up and move it over to the opposite side. Your dog is probably going to follow the treat in your hand with his nose, which means he will rollover his whole body. As he rolls, state the command “roll over” in a firm tone. Repeat the process until your dog associates the command with the action. Be persistent and do not give up; it might take a while but will be worth it once they learn it.

You need to teach your dog how to walk when on a leash. Think of the leash as a safety requirement.

Remember to have patience when it comes to training your dog. This keeps everyone happy and frustration at bay. Bear in mind that your dog wants nothing more than to please you; however, your language is somewhat confusing to him.

You indicate that jumping up is an unacceptable behavior by grabbing the dogs paws, squeezing gently and guiding them back down to the ground. You will not be hurting them if you squeeze them softly, they just do not like it. They learn that if they want to avoid that discomfort, they need to refrain from jumping up.

Training Sessions

Don’t extend training sessions. Since dogs do not have a long attention span, making sure training sessions are kept short ensures that your dog will not dread them. If you want to train more you should always give yourself and dog a break.

To prevent barking, teach your dog simple methods to quit them. When it starts barking, show them the treat and say the command until it quits barking. Then, you can give your pet the treat. Once you have diligently used this training method, your dog starts to link the tasty treat with the desired behavior and its corresponding command.

TIP! When you are house training your puppy, remember, what goes in, must come out. To keep your pet regular, feed him quality food a couple of times daily at the same hour.

Use your puppy’s name often so that he knows to pay attention when you speak. You puppy will develop the association between his name being called, and him needing to pay attention to what you are telling him. The best dog names are ones that are short and are different from other commands.

When you are training your dog with a leash, try to ensure that the leash is loose. Dogs are often eager to explore new territory when they get the opportunity to go for a walk. Many dogs will strain against the leash due to their eagerness. The smart owner discourages this behavior, teaching the dog to walk with a slack leash instead.

One thing you should remember when you are training your pet is that you should not give in to bad things your dog does. This will only teach the dog that it can do what it wants and has power over you. In other words: no treats are to be given to barking dogs.

TIP! The first thing your dog must learn is who the boss is. Your dog must understand that you’re in control, so that he knows to obey and respect you.

If you are consistent, it is possible to teach a dog to delay responding to nature’s call. If at home, be sure to spend some time with him and bring him outside every 50 minutes. When he does use the bathroom outdoors, give him lots of praise. If you dog has an accident inside your house, do not scold him. In the beginning, they won’t understand what they did wrong. Have the dog outside around 15 minutes post-meal or drink to ensure he can empty himself.

Now you are armed with the knowledge of how to train your puppy. Keep your patience high and your love flowing to a well-behaved dog. You cannot do it all in a few days, so give it time.
