A cat is an inquisitive, affectionate, loving addition for any family, and adopting one can add a great deal of quality time to your life. Sometimes it’s a good idea to provide some extra stimulation with a fun toy, unique game or interesting activity. Spending money on a cat’s entertainment is not necessary, but it is fun sometimes. Use these ideas and you will have good times ahead.

Cats often view small spaces as a fun challenge. If they’ve got a collar on, this may put them in danger as it can get stuck. Breakaway collars will “break” if they’re pulled too tight. Using this collar will prevent your cat from injuring itself.

To safely help an old cat feel comfortable, place a heated tile under its bed. Simply heat a single foot cotta tile at 200 degrees between 15 and 20 minutes. Use an old towel to wrap around it, then place it beneath the cat’s blanket or bed. If necessary, repeat this every few hours.

Prevent your cat from chewing on electrical cords by spraying bitter apple on them. If your cat still insists on chewing your cords, try to cover as many of them as possible. Use paper towel or wrapping paper rolls to bundle up cords. If you own electronic devices with thin cords, you should keep them out of your cat’s reach when you’re not using them.

Some cats like to scratch up floors and furniture. If you want to prevent or stop your cat from scratching up your furniture, the best thing to do is buy a scratching post or kitty tower for them to climb in. Encourage your cat to scratch where you want them to. Be patient, it might take some time for your cat to learn to use the post or tower.

Keeping cats from a counter really can be tough. Cats instinctively want to be at a high vantage point so they can survey their surroundings. To help prevent your cat from doing this, you can establish tall places specifically for your cat. Placing a cat tower near the kitchen will help the cats to not lay on the counter.

Your cat has sensitive ears, especially in the car when they’re stressed out. Cats tend to prefer gentle sounds during the day. Therefore, try lowering your music or turning it off in order for your cat to enjoy the trip more.

Make a tablecloth that your cat can use. Often, a cat will remove food from his bowl to eat on the side. Sometimes this will make the area around the bowl messy, and you’ll have to clean it. Think about putting a placemat underneath the bowl or make your own tablecloth out of fabric.

Litter Box

You cannot teach a cat to use a litter box. Using the litter box is instinctual for cats, and they require no training. Certain techniques, such as rubbing the paws of your cat in the litter could actual traumatize your cat.

Give your cat a good brushing regularly. This will reduce the amount of bacteria on the fur. It can also get rid of hair that is loose. This helps keep those hairballs from building up in your cat’s stomach.

If your cat dirties the space near his litter box, don’t punish them. If your cat makes a mess, it’s probably because their litter box is not properly cared for. Punishments given to the cat will just make him or her less willing to be around its owner going forward.

Reduce the chances of raising a finicky cat by feeding them several brands of food while they are young. If you start them off eating the same type of food all of the time and you never change it up, this will most likely be the only food they will eat in the future.

Do you feel as if there is cat hair all over the place? Cats can shed quite a bit; therefore, it’s important that you maintain proper grooming habits by brushing them often. If your cat sheds often, you will need to brush him more often. It’s also a great aid to keeping the cat’s coat as pristine as possible.

If your feline friend is having kittens, make sure to give her lots of room to birth in. The birth process can last up to four hours, which means you must exercise patience. If you believe your cat is still giving birth after six hours, you should immediately drive to the vet’s office.

Litter Box

If you’re dealing with a cat that won’t use the litter box, you should place it somewhere else. Cats feel vulnerable when relieving themselves, so make sure the litter box is in a secluded spot. For example, your basement, laundry room or other room away from household activity should suffice.

Have your cat sport a collar that includes information regarding the owner’s name, address and telephone number. Your indoor pet might even get out if you leave a window open. It is important that you provide a way that they can get back home if that should happen.

If your cat has been declawed, outdoors should be off-limits. Cats without claws cannot stand up for themselves if they encounter another animal. The result could be injuries or death. Only indoor cats should be declawed. Even then, you should only have the front claws removed. Don’t remove the back claws. This will help ensure that your cat remains safe in case it gets outside, and back claws will not scratch any furniture.

You ought to be enjoying your cat at this moment. As you can see, relating to your cat is really not that difficult at all. If you take good care of your pet and keep it active, it’ll live a happier, longer life.
